A time for Change |
|
I've used this site as a way of expressing an opinion with images and background comments. I have some very intensely held opinions but I grew up believing that personal opinions were to be held and only brought out when others ask... I'm changing that today, the total disaster in our economy, the attack on technology and the industry in which I try make a living are just too blatant and extreme. We appear to live in a society where the fundamental freedoms that I came to love and expect are being challenged, not by external enemies but by the very government that we elect to represent "We, the people". These so-called "Representatives" only seem to represent those who bribe them with donations or, in some way, have bought them in the past. OUR "Attorney General", a position that is supposed to represent our interests en masse seems more interested in creating an atmosphere of fear in which he and his cohorts can eliminate most, if not all, of our constitutional rights. In the name of "National Security", he claims the right to act outside the law in any form and detain people without due process. OUR President claims the right to conduct "A War" without a formal declaration of War by Congress. Now don't get me wrong, I believe that al-Qaida and its supporters are vermin and deserve to be exterminated for terrorism. BUT, and its a big BUT, do we do that by becoming what we abhor? By becoming worse terrorists than those we oppose? If we do, are we any better than a Street Gang? I am not proposing ANY compromise with these scum, but I am asking if we need to do things in a clear cut and OPEN way - the openness that makes the USA the beacon of light. We don't maintain freedom by cozying up to those that oppress their own citizens, by denying basic human rights to their citizens - male and female alike. We don't maintain the moral high ground by funding fascist regimes that invariably, at a critical point, turn on us and attack us. We don't maintain the moral high ground by allowing OUR "Representatives" to take bribes in the form of "donations" from countries and companies that undermine our own economy. (I understand that Japan, for example, when the "donations" by Corporations and Government are combined dump over $4 Billion A YEAR into our political process.) The blatant manner in which the Enron executives have, so far, failed to be charged with any crime while other companies that have done much less have senior executives under indictment and jail, shows that the highest "elected" officials have no fear when protecting their friends from stealing on a massive scale. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Its time to change the cozy relationships in Washington, DC. Its time to stop the bribery of Congress by big money. Soon, most of us have an opportunity to vote, let's vote these bums out. It really doesn't matter who gets elected this time, we can dump them next time. And, when we vote, let's make sure they know we don't want the Department of Justice or "Homeland Security" turning into another KGB or SS. We want our freedoms protected and not attacked and we want them to refuse bribes.
"It's time for change - dump the crooks" .
